14 Australia Awards and WLI alumni complete Samoan Oratory Workshop organised by Alumni Representatives

14 Australia Awards and WLI alumni recently completed a Samoan Oratory Workshop at the The National University of Samoa organised by Samoan WLI alumni representatives Ezethanie Tofilau and Della Siomia Savaiinaea.

Over six intensive days, the group of aspiring leaders increased their confidence to deliver speeches in Samoan language. To do this, they participated in lectures, studied theoretical knowledge and frameworks, and engaged with each other through practical exercises and discussions.

Graduates are already seeing the benefits of the training at work, with one remarking, "I have always opened meetings in English and Samoan everyday language."

"Today was different, as I opened it in Samoan Oratory formal language, which surprised those in the room."

"For me, it wasn't only being noticed but the feeling of accomplishment being able to speak and open the meeting properly."

Deputy Head of Mission, Claire McGeechan, and Oloamanu Centre for Professional Development and Continuing Education Manager, Fonoti Tuiolo Schuster, joined the graduation ceremony (pictured below), presenting each aspiring leader with their certificate.
