WLI Men's Group

< Back to What we do

The WLI Men’s Group is a new initiative designed specifically for male Australia Awards scholars, alumni and spouses from the Pacific. It provides a safe and inclusive space for men to explore their leadership identities, examine the role of gender in leadership, and actively support gender equality and inclusive development.

The Men’s Group aims to build a network of reflective, values-driven male leaders who are equipped to lead positive change and contribute to more inclusive leadership and development outcomes across the Pacific. Participants are supported to notice, understand and challenge harmful gender norms, reflect on power and privilege, and strengthen the skills and confidence needed to be effective allies for women’s leadership in their families, workplaces, and communities.

The program includes fortnightly online sessions alternating between Topic Sessions, led by Pacific experts and practitioners and Reflection and Connections Sessions, where participants share experiences, apply their learning, and support one another’s leadership practice.

The group also take part in a Residential Intensive at Outward Bound Australia with select women from Women's Developmental Leadership Program to strengthen relationships, practice leadership in action, and collaborate on practical outputs. Here, participants are exposed to a wide range of activities, concepts and resources and have the opportunity to:

  • Practice leadership through action and participation,
  • Apply developmental, ontological, and adaptive leadership in practice,
  • Build confidence to lead in uncertainty and challenge norms,
  • Apply local leadership approaches to real-world change,
  • Build networks and coalitions for locally led change, and
  • Co-create and commit to a practical Pathway and Toolkit for change.
