Kareketaake is an environmental project officer passionate about empowering small-island communities, especially women, to be involved in and take climate action. She specialises in climate resilience and adaptation and has over five years of experience planning and managing projects and securing funding to develop regional and national initiatives for the Kiribati Ministry of Environment, Lands and Agricultural Development. Kareketaake is also skilled in managing climate funds, as well as data collection, research, reporting, and problem-solving.
Growing up in a low-lying island of Kiribati instilled in Kareketaake a deep dedication to advancing climate action and enhancing development in Kiribati. Upon completing her Australia Award, Kareketaake aims to develop and conduct workshops and training sessions that foster women’s involvement in climate-related projects.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Law and Population Studies and Demography, from the University of the South Pacific.
