Master of Environmental Science, The University of Western Australia
Kabure is an environmentalist passionate about conservation and adaptation to the impacts of climate change. Growing up on the remote Fanning Island of Kiribati gave Kabure a deep appreciation for the sustainable use and protection of natural resources to sustain livelihoods.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Environmental Science from the University of the South Pacific in 2017, Kabure joined Kiribati’s Ministry of Environment, Lands and Agricultural Development, where she was promoted to Deputy Director of the Environment and Conservation Division (ECD) in 2022. In this role, Kabure assisted in overseeing the technical implementation of the ECD’s key programs across waste management, biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and safeguarding the environment through awareness and enforcement measures.
After completing her on-Award studies, Kabure intends to share her knowledge and increased leadership capacity to strengthen ecological rehabilitation and recovery efforts in Kiribati. She also hopes to inform community understandings of the negative impact of coastal and in-shore mining on both the environment and livelihoods.
