Joanne is a community nutritionist from Port Moresby with over five years’ technical experience in nutrition delivery, teaching, training, and research. She has worked with World Vision and UNICEF as a Nutrition Officer leading implementation of child malnutrition-prevention programs in PNG.
As a technical advisor, Joanne has assisted organisations to deliver quality, nutrition services based on data collected through research, and trained Village Health Volunteers to implement nutrition interventions. Passionate and outspoken about improving nutrition service delivery for the benefit of all children, Joanne advocates for stronger community involvement in and ownership of the promotion of health and wellbeing; especially to support pregnant women and children.
Joanne is the founder and owner of Takara’s Craft, a small business through which she produces and sells art, jewellery and other crafts. Having experienced first-hand the economic and creative benefits of running her own business, she hopes to empower women to build and use the skills they have to start their own creative enterprises and boost their financial independence. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (in Family and Community Studies and Nutrition) from the University of Goroka.
