Jeruska Togoran
Nauru

Bachelor of Laws (Honours), Griffith University

Jeruska is an administrative law enthusiast passionate about increasing Nauruan communities’ awareness of their democratic rights and introducing anti-corruption mechanisms in the country’s public sector.

Since 2018, she has worked within the Nauru Department of Justice and Border Control, including as a Paralegal in the Office of the Solicitor General in Nauru. In this role, Jeruska supported senior government lawyers in matters of civil litigation, intellectual property, and on the Nauru Law Revision Project; revising 600 pieces of legislation.

In 2019, Jeruska was admitted to the Nauru Supreme Court Bar as a Pleader, where she worked under the supervision of the country’s Solicitor General. In the same year, she became an Alumna of the Australian Attorney General Department’s Pacific Legal Policy Champions Program.

When she returns to Nauru, Jeruska aims to implement community education programs to help people understand their rights and reduce stigma associated with criticising governmental policies and systems. She believes that establishing a robust legislative framework for administrative review is essential to improving access to justice in Nauru and aims to advocate for institutional reforms to safeguard accountability, and Nauruans’ rights to reason and information.
