Bwebwenikai is a marine scientist and aquaculturist passionate about developing an innovative, sustainable fisheries industry in Kiribati that builds thriving communities.
Before taking up her Australia Award, Bwebwenikai served as a Senior Fisheries Officer in the Coastal Fisheries Division of the Kiribati Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, where she worked since 2016.
In this role, Bwebwenikai implemented community-based aquaculture programs that helped to replenish wild stocks and improve livelihoods through community farming.
Bwebwenikai also holds a Bachelor of Science (Marine Science).
