Using her strong skills in geospatial science and surveying, Vasiti has worked on an integrated disaster response system for Fiji's Office of the Commissioner (Western) and for Fiji's Native Lands Trust Board and the Asian Institute of Technology.
Vasiti understands the challenges of working in a male-dominated profession and she intends to challenge Fijian norms and mindsets around gender roles. She plans to encourage indigenous Fijian men and women to find sustainable ways to build respect for each other, share responsibilities, and collaborate in decision-making. She also plans to develop methods to encourage young Fijian women to stay in school and build the skills and motivation to chase their dreams.
