Master of Clinical Research

The University of Melbourne

Mary is an obstetrician/gynaecologist from Port Moresby. Prior to taking up her Australia Award, she was Co-ordinator of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit at Port Moresby General Hospital and President of the Papua New Guinea (PNG) Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society. Passionate about women’s health, Mary is interested in the clinical care and management of women with gynaecological cancers that are prevalent in PNG, and HIV care in pregnancy. Currently undertaking her Master of Clinical Research at The University of Melbourne, Mary hopes to use the knowledge gained to build networks and improve capacity in clinical research in the workplace and teaching environment.

Mary was the recipient of the Alison Sudradjat Prize and hopes to use her Award to attend conferences related to the human papillomavirus and cervical cancer, a month’s clinical observance in a gynaecology cancer unit outside of PNG, and to assist establishment of a cervical screening unit in Port Moresby. She looks forward to improving her leadership skills and networking with other women in the Pacific.
